Stats SA resumes face-to-face data collection for Pilot Census from 13 August

Stats SA will deploy fieldworkers to collect data for the Pilot Census from 13 to 31 August 2021. Fieldworkers will be visiting sampled households in seven provinces namely: Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and North West.  Fieldwork in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Western Cape will resume at a later date. Men, Women and Children is a report based on the results of the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) conducted between September 2008 and August 2009. The main aim of this survey is to provide data that will contribute to better understanding poverty in South Africa and to provide data for monitoring levels of poverty over time. The report seeks to understand the adult population, the household situation and the child population through profiling their living circumstances and levels of poverty. Special focus is given to the differences between males and females, whether at the level of the household head or the individual. read more »


Report-03-10-06 - Poverty trends in South Africa: An examination of absolute poverty between 2006 and 2011

The Poverty Trends report analyzes trends in poverty and inequality between 2006 and 2011 drawing on money-metric data collected through the Income and Expenditure Survey (IES) 2005/06 and 2010/11, as well as the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) 2008/09. We profile poverty at both a household and individual level. P0351.4 - Documented Immigrants in South Africa

The release provides information on the number, nationality, types of permits and the age structure of the recipients of South Africa temporary and permanent residence permits. The data on these recipients come from the permit administrative system maintained by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA). Stats SA processes the data on permit applications that are approved during a calendar year. The results from the release contribute to information regarding the number and characteristics of documented immigrants in South Africa. read more »

P0310 - Living Conditions of Households in South Africa

The Living Conditions of Households in South Africa 2008/2009 is based on the results of the Living Conditions Survey (LCS) conducted in September 2008 to August 2009. This was the first LCS ever conducted by Stats SA. The next LCS will be conducted in 2013/14. This report provides information on the living circumstances of households in South Africa with special reference to spending patterns of households on different expenditure items. The report provides information on indicators such as average annual household expenditure, share of the bottom quintile to total household expenditure as well as in-kind expenditure such as free electricity, free water, etc. These indicators are derived using household expenditure data collected from households through the use of diaries and household questionnaire. read more »
