Musina

Musina in the Limpopo Valley is the northernmost town in South Africa. Situated close to the Beit Bridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, it is the main entry point into the country from countries north of South Africa. The town developed around the copper mining industry in the area. Copper was first discovered in pre-historic times by the Musina people who named it ‘musina’, meaning ‘spoiler’, because they considered it a poor substitute for iron, which is what they were after. The mineral was later re-discovered and mined by 20th century miners. Today iron, coal, magnetite, graphite, asbestos, diamonds and copper are mined here. With fascinating attractions and many game farms in the area, tourism and hunting play an important role in the economy of the town. The recently declared world heritage site of Mapungubwe (meaning ‘Hill of the Jackal’) is one of the richest archaeological sites in the country. Botanical highlights of the region include fine specimens of baobab trees and impala lilies which are both protected species. Victor Khanye

Victor Khanye Local Municipality is situated in Mpumalanga province, within the Nkangala District Municipality. It is located in the Western Highveld of the Nkangala District Municipality. The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, in the Gauteng province, borders Victor Khanye Local Municipality to the west. It is bordered to the north by the Kungwini Local Municipality, to the south by the Govan Mbeki and Lesedi Local Municipalities

The municipality is strategically located, as it is situated between Johannesburg in Gauteng and Nelspruit in Mpumalanga. It is also located close to the economically thriving metropolitan municipalities in Gauteng namely, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane. It is 10km from the N12 Highway, which joins the N4 Maputo corridor, the main link between Gauteng , Mpumalanga and Mozambique.

The area is approximately 1 570 km² in extent. The area is mostly plain with a few rocky outcrops and meandering rivers. Settlements in the area are sparsely distributed. Urban settlements are found mostly in Eloff, Sundra, Delmas and Botleng. Rural settlements include Brakfontein, Argent, Arbor, Dryden and Waaikraal. Agricultural settlements in the form of smallholdings are also found in Eloff, Sundra (Droogefontein and Reitkol), Strydpan and Delmas (Leeupoort). Dryden is also a railway settlement with industrial development.

Emakhazeni

EmakhazeniLocal Municipality is situated in the heart of Mpumalanga,covering a total of 4 736km2with a total of about 47 216 people and eight wards.It is bordered by Mbombela Local Municipality on the east and MiddelburgLocal Municipality on the west. It is one of the six municipalitiesthat fall within the Nkangala District Municipality, and was formed through theamalgamation of four former Transitional Local Councils (TLCs) namely Belfast, Dullstroom,Machadodorp and WatervalBoven.

There are four nature reserves in the area, namely the Tullach-Mohr Reserveon the eastern boundary of the area, the Dullstroom Nature Reservesituated north of Dullstroom and the Verloren Valley Nature reservesituated in the north of Emakhazeni. Lastly, the Ntsinini Nature Reserve is situated east of Emgwenya (WatervalBoven).

Thaba Chweu

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality is one of the four municipalities of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality of Mpumalanga. The municipality is located on the far north-eastern part of the district. It shares its northern boundaries with Limpopo. The municipality is on the Lowveld escarpment of Mpumalanga, with an average elevation of 1 400 m above sea level and altitudes varying from 600 to 2 100 m.
