Knysna

The Knysna municipal area covers a total surface 10 59 square kilometer.  It stretches from the Swartevlet in the Sedgefield in the west to Harkerville in the East.  The municipal area is bordered by the Outeniqua Mountains in the north and Indian Ocean in the south.

Beaufort West

Beaufort West Local Municipality is located in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, and forms part of the Central Karoo District Municipality.

On 03 February 1837, a proclamation appeared in the Government Gazette stating that Beaufort had been granted municipal government, and thus it became the first municipality in South Africa.To avoid confusion with Fort Beaufort and Port Beaufort, the name “Beaufort” was changed to “Beaufort West” in the 1860’s (www.beaufortwestmun.co.za).

City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town as a municipal entity of today is just over ten years old. However, the Mother City has the oldest municipal structure in the country, going back to its first Council meeting held on 8 April 1652 – on a sailing ship anchored in Table Bay.
