Richmond Municipality is situated south of Msunduzi, west of Mkhambathini and the Sisonke District in the south west. Richmond enjoys a competitive advantage in the field of agriculture that contributes to more than 50% of the gross geographic product and employment in the area. uMtshezi Local Municipality comprises parts of the Magisterial Districts of Weenen and Estcourt, the informal settlements of Cornfields, Thembalihle, Mimosadale, and numerous settlements around Weenen. Estcourt is the largest commercial centre in the Midlands region, and an important service centre for the nearby towns of Mooi River, Winterton, Bergville, Colenso and Weenen. Weenen is a small agricultural town that is starting to emerge as a tourist destination.

Situated in the Umzinyathi District Municipality in the north-western part of KwaZulu-Natal, Endumeni Local Municipality is home to a population that is predominantly urban, with only 16,8% living in non-urban areas.
