EmakhazeniLocal Municipality is situated in the heart of Mpumalanga,covering a total of 4 736km2with a total of about 47 216 people and eight wards.It is bordered by Mbombela Local Municipality on the east and MiddelburgLocal Municipality on the west. It is one of the six municipalitiesthat fall within the Nkangala District Municipality, and was formed through theamalgamation of four former Transitional Local Councils (TLCs) namely Belfast, Dullstroom,Machadodorp and WatervalBoven.
There are four nature reserves in the area, namely the Tullach-Mohr Reserveon the eastern boundary of the area, the Dullstroom Nature Reservesituated north of Dullstroom and the Verloren Valley Nature reservesituated in the north of Emakhazeni. Lastly, the Ntsinini Nature Reserve is situated east of Emgwenya (WatervalBoven).

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality is one of the four municipalities of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality of Mpumalanga. The municipality is located on the far north-eastern part of the district. It shares its northern boundaries with Limpopo. The municipality is on the Lowveld escarpment of Mpumalanga, with an average elevation of 1 400 m above sea level and altitudes varying from 600 to 2 100 m.

Umjindi Local Municipality is situated in the south-eastern part of Mpumalanga, on the escarpment. The municipal area forms part of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality together with Nkomazi Local Municipality, Thaba Chweu Local Municipality, Mbombela Local Municipality and Bushbuckridge Local Municipality. The only town in the area is Barberton. Neighbouring municipal areas within Mpumalanga are Mbombela, Albert Luthuli and Nkomazi Local Municipalities. Moretele Local Municipality is located in an area called Moretele, which is situated far north of Pretoria in the North West province. The municipality was built in 2000, and covers an area of 1 369km2. It is located strategically to join four provinces, namely North West, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo. Moretele is the Setswana name for a river that runs through the area, namely Noka ya Moretele (the Moretele River).
The Municipality comprises of 24 wards, which are made up of 66 villages and plots. Most villages are ruled by 4 traditional leaders(Dikgosi) who are recognised by law and who all represent their respective tribes/communities in council.
