Mogalakwena

The Mogalakwena Municipality, classified as a category B local municipality, was established on 5 December 2000 when various municipalities and councils that had previously served Potgietersrus and surrounding areas were integrated. The following local authorities were amalgamated to form the new municipality:

  • The Greater Potgietersrus (Mokopane)
  • Bakenberg
  • Koedoesrand\Rebone
Mogalakwena Municipality is situated in the western quadrant of Limpopo, within the western district of the Waterberg Municipality, and is bordered by Aganang to the east, Mookgopong to the south, and Lephalale to the north. The stunning bushveld environment and a multi-cultural community and history give Mokopane a unique character. The town and immediate surroundings boast fascinating ancient caves, the Big Five, San rock art, curios, typically bushveld food and drink such as biltong (dried meat) and mampoer (a potent drink), tropical gardens and traditional dancing.read more »


Naledi

Naledi Local Municipality (NW392) covers a total area of approximately 7,258 km². This land mass is 15% of the total area of the Dr. Ruth S Mompati District Municipality area. The administrative centre of the municipality is in the town of Vryburg. The town of Vryburg is considered the agricultural and industrial centre of Dr Ruth S Mompati District Municipality. The town is the host to the 3rd largest agricultural show in South Africa, namely Vryburg Show, which attracts farmers from almost all provinces in the country as well as farmers from the neighbouring countries such as the Republic of Namibia and Botswana. This makes the municipality the main employer within the district and most significant contributor to GDP. Naledi Local Municipality is separated into five main places, namely, Vryburg town, Huhudi township, Colridge township, Stella, Devondale and Dithakwaneng village. The municipal area is surrounded by the other three local municipalities within the district, namely, Greater Taung Municipality (70km), Kagisano Molopo Municipality (70km) and Mamusa Municipality(70km). The town of Vryburg is about 140km away from Kuruman town in the Northern Cape Province and 160km from Mahikeng municipality, the administrative centre of the North West Province. Ga-Segonyana

Ga-Segonyana Municipality is a former cross-boundary municipality with areas in the Northern Cape and North West.  The municipal jurisdiction consists of 33 residential areas within a radius of approximately 80 km in and around Kuruman, and has approximately 75 000 residents.  The municipality’s economy is mainly based on the surrounding mining and agricultural activities.

The municipal seat, Kuruman, is situated on the Namaquari route, forming part of the main route between Gauteng and Namibia and Cape Town via Upington.  The name Ga-Segonyana means a small calabash with bubbling water.
