Umzimkhulu

Umzimkhulu is a local municipality in KwaZulu-Natal. It is one of the family of five local municipalities (Ubuhlebezwe, Ingwe, KwaSani and Kokstad) of the Sisonke District Municipality. The district neighbours Ugu District in the east, Msunduzi in the north, Lesotho in the east and Eastern Cape in the south. Umzimkhulu is the most populated of the Sisonke municipalities. The municipal area consists of 20 wards, and traditional areas comprise 46% of the region. The total land area covered by Umzimkhulu is 2 436 km²

Makhado

Named after a 19th century vhaVenda king, Makhado, who ruled the area for many years, this is a fertile region where litchis, bananas, mangoes and nuts are produced. The national road (N1) runs through the town.

Makhado is situated in a highly fertile, rapidly growing agricultural area; the town has become one of Limpopo's premier business and tourist destinations and is the perfect springboard from which to visit the Songozwi sacred burial site of the vhaVenda, as well as Makhado's 'office', a secluded cave from where the chief conducted his campaign against the Voortrekkers.

The well-known town of Louis Trichardt is situated at the foot of the Soutpansberg mountain range in Limpopo and was developed from the Voortrekker settlement in the area. It was named after the leader Louis Trichardt, who moved away from British rule in the Cape and arrived here in 1836.

Hantam

The Hantam Municipality covers approximately 30 000 square kilometres and includes Calvinia (the centre) as well as Brandvlei, Loeriesfontein, Middelpos and Nieuwoudtville. Calvinia is approximately 400 km from Cape Town, Springbok, Upington and Beaufort West.

The municipality provides work for more than 140 permanent employees.  Seventy per cent of the population of approximately 20 000 people live and work in the towns.  Farming is the main contributor to the economy, namely sheep, wool, lucerne as well as rooibos tea. Numerous government departments are also situated in Calvinia.

Emthanjeni Local Municipality is a category B municipality consisting of three towns: De Aar, Britstown and Hanover. Emthanjeni, and especially De Aar, is renowned for its central location on the main railway line between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Namibia. It is situated in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality and is the seat of this district. Its location is approximately 300 km south-west of Kimberley, 440 km south-east of Upington, 300 km north-east of Beaufort-West and 300 km south-west of Bloemfontein.
