The economy slides in the first quarter

A sharp contraction in mining tipped economic growth into negative territory in the first quarter of 2016. The report examines the birth registration process with special reference to South Africa and focus on the content, coverage and the quality of the register. It estimates the completeness of the birth register for the nine provinces and the country as a whole. It also provides estimates of fertility based on data from register and compare those with estimates from Census. Furthermore, the report describes the levels and trends in birth registration over time. Report-03-09-05 - Adult mortality (age 15-64) based on death notification data in South Africa

This analytical report analyses data for people age 15-64. In this report, the data on deaths by age, sex, and year of death are adjusted to take into account incompleteness of death registration. The report found that death rates rose for every five year age group between 1997 and 2004. Mortality from unnatural causes of death change little over this period.read more »

The quarterly survey of average monthly earnings (AME) measures average monthly earnings of wage and salary earners (excluding those employed in agriculture). It collects employment and earnings data from a sample of employing businesses taken from the business sampling frame (BSF). The data is used to estimate the average monthly earnings of employees in South Africa. Estimates of average monthly earnings are available for total employees and are classified by industry.read more »
