Ubuntu Local Municipality is a municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality of the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. It is situated in Victoria West; other towns in the municipality are Richmond, Loxton and two small railway villages Hutchinson and Merriman. The region forms a part of the Karoo area. The agriculture and tourism industries are supported by the location, topography and climate of the region. A variety of minerals occur in the region yet no mining activities exist. Several applications for uranium prospecting have been submitted to the Department of Minerals and Energy. The new demarcation joined Victoria West, Hutchinson, Merriman, Loxton and Richmond into a single Municipality. Victoria West, situated on the N12, is the main town. Umsobomvu

The Umsobomvu Local Municipality forms part of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality which is located in the south-eastern part of the Northern Cape. The municipality is made up of three main entities, namely Colesberg, Noupoort, and Norvalspont, which is also called Kwa-sasizakhe.

Colesberg is the “capital” of Umsobomvu Local Municipality and was named after Sir Lowry Cole,  governor of the Cape of Good Hope from 1828–1833. Farming in the area is dedicated almost entirely to horses and merino sheep. In a sheep-farming area spread over half-a-million hectares, greater Colesberg breeds many of the country’s top merinos. Emthanjeni Local Municipality is a category B municipality consisting of three towns: De Aar, Britstown and Hanover. Emthanjeni, and especially De Aar, is renowned for its central location on the main railway line between Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Namibia. It is situated in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality and is the seat of this district. Its location is approximately 300 km south-west of Kimberley, 440 km south-east of Upington, 300 km north-east of Beaufort-West and 300 km south-west of Bloemfontein. Siyathemba

Siyathemba Local Municipality is a local municipality in the PixleykaSeme District Municipality in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.Siyathemba Municipality is a Category B Municipality (NC077), established in 2001, in accordance with the demarcation process. The municipality is located within the central eastern parts of the Northern Cape Province on the banks of the Orange River, and falls within the boundaries of the PixleykaSeme District. The nearest business centre is Kimberley, which is about 220km away. Siyathemba Municipality was initially made up of three entities, namely, Prieska, Marydale and Niekerkshoop. After demarcation the area was extended to include not only the towns and surrounding suburbs of Marydale, Niekerkshoop and Prieska but also Copperton.The municipal area encompasses a geographic area of approximately 8,200km², which implies that Siyathemba Municipality accounts for 8% of the total district surface area and approximately 3% of the provincial area. Mier

MIER Local Municipality is situated adjacent to one of the world’s largest conservation areas, namely the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, and comprises a municipality bigger than the Free State province. Rietfontein, which is the main town, is situated approximately 280km north-west from the nearest big town of Upington. Mier Local Municipality borders with Namibia in the west, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the north, and Botswana in the north-east. It forms part of the Siyanda District Municipality. Mier Local Municipality consists of nine small towns, namely Rietfontein, Philandersbron, Loubos, Klein Mier, Groot Mier, Welkom, Askham, Noenieput and the !Khomani San community within its jurisdiction. The name "Mier" is an Afrikaans word that originates from the word "mere" which means "lakes". When German missionaries visited the area a long time ago, they found the pans in the area full of water that they called them "mere". As language changed, the people later pronounced it as "mier".
