The Economic Activity Survey (EAS) is an annual survey, which measures overall activity in the South African economy. It is based on a sample of private and public enterprises operating in the formal non-agricultural business sector of the economy, excluding financial intermediation, insurance and government institutions. The survey is designed to provide information on selected income and expenditure items and the consolidated balance sheet. Information is collected for the financial years of enterprises that ended on any date between 1 July of one year and 30 June of the following year. The results are used within Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) for compiling the annual national accounts.
