Originally published monthly, it has appeared quarterly (March, June, September and December) since 1967. Report-03-11-01 - Census 2011: Agricultural households

This report presents the status of the South African household based agriculture as depicted in the Population Census of 2011. The information presented in the report is a result of three questions, related to agriculture, which were included in the Population Census 2011 questionnaire. The following questions were included in the Population Census 2011 questionnaire: - What kind of agricultural activity is the household involved in? - How many of the following (livestock) does the household own? - Where does this household operate its agricultural activities? The report provides a provincial breakdown of agricultural households by type of agricultural activities undertaken, type and number of livestock kept, water source, type of energy used for lighting and cooking and type of toilet facility available. Hlabisa

Hlabisa Municipality is one of the local Municipalities under Umkhanyakude district in the KwaZulu-Natal province.  The municipality was named after the surname, Hlabisa, of two Nkosi's in the area.  The municipality is generally characterised by rural communities predominantly under traditional areas.  91% of land was under traditional authority, 3% commercial farmland and 6% urban.  The major town is Hlabisa, with secondary nodes of Mpembeni, Zibayeni and Ezibayeni.read more »

Nkandla

Nkandla is situated in a remote area of breathtaking mountainous beauty, which consists mainly of tribal lands and state-owned land. The area has a wealth of undisturbed forests, which boast many indigenous species. Nkandla has a claim to be the ‘cradle’ of Zulu history. uMlalazi

uMlalazi Local Municipality is made up of the towns of Eshowe, Mtunzini, and Gingindlovu. The villages of Amatikulu and Ntumeni, together with considerable rural hinterland, cover one of the largest geographical areas of all municipalities in South Africa, with a total area of 2 217 km2. The municipal area is dominated by tribal areas, and 14 Tribal Authorities exist within the area (uMlalazi municipality website). The area appears to have sufficient sources for the provision of water. A complicating factor is the undulating topography, which is characteristic of the entire municipal area. In some instances it is therefore difficult and expensive to provide these services. Arterial roads through the area are in good condition. In practically all instances district roads and farm roads are in poor condition and in need of upgrading.read more »

Greater Kokstad

The Greater Kokstad Municipality is one of the municipalities of the Sisonke District Municipality. It lies on the south-west tip of KwaZulu-Natal and is bordered by Matatiele Local Municipality on the west, Lesotho and part of the Eastern Cape on the north-west.The Greater Kokstad Municipality covers a land area of approximately 2 682 km² and shares its borders with KwaSani, Matatiele, Umziwabantu local municipalities, and the KwaZulu-Natal enclosed portion of the Eastern Cape. It is one of the five municipalities that make up the Sisonke District Municipality. Greater Kokstad Municipality functions as the district node and dominant commercial centre in the Sisonke district.read more »

Ubuhlebezwe is one of five local municipalities that constitute the Sisonke District. It is located along the eastern boundary of the Sisonke District Municipality. It borders onto the Ingwe, Richmond, Vulamehlo, Umzumbe and UMzimkhulu local municipalities. It covers an area of approximately1 604 km².
