Newcastle

Newcastle Municipality falls within Amajuba District in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Located in the north-west corner of province, the municipality shares its northern border with the province of Mpumalanga and its western border with the province of Free State. Musina

Musina in the Limpopo Valley is the northernmost town in South Africa. Situated close to the Beit Bridge border post between South Africa and Zimbabwe, it is the main entry point into the country from countries north of South Africa. The town developed around the copper mining industry in the area. Copper was first discovered in pre-historic times by the Musina people who named it ‘musina’, meaning ‘spoiler’, because they considered it a poor substitute for iron, which is what they were after. The mineral was later re-discovered and mined by 20th century miners. Today iron, coal, magnetite, graphite, asbestos, diamonds and copper are mined here. With fascinating attractions and many game farms in the area, tourism and hunting play an important role in the economy of the town. The recently declared world heritage site of Mapungubwe (meaning ‘Hill of the Jackal’) is one of the richest archaeological sites in the country. Botanical highlights of the region include fine specimens of baobab trees and impala lilies which are both protected species. Thaba Chweu

Thaba Chweu Local Municipality is one of the four municipalities of the Ehlanzeni District Municipality of Mpumalanga. The municipality is located on the far north-eastern part of the district. It shares its northern boundaries with Limpopo. The municipality is on the Lowveld escarpment of Mpumalanga, with an average elevation of 1 400 m above sea level and altitudes varying from 600 to 2 100 m.

Lekwa

Lekwa Local Municipality was established on the 5th of  December 2000 after the amalgamation of 3 former Transitional Local Councils namely Standerton, Sakhile and Morgenzon. Lekwa Local Municipality lies on the large open plains of the Highveld region that is characterised by tall grass and is transversed by the Vaal River which flows in a westerly direction. The municipality spans an area of 4 586 km2 which equates to 15% of the overall area of GertSibande District.

The Municipality is named after the Vaal River which is commonly known as Lekwa (a Sotho name for Vaal River).

The Municipality consists of Standerton which serves as an urban node, whileMorgenzon, which is 45km North East of Standerton,serves as a satellite node. It is landlocked by the following local municipalities, Pixley ka Seme and Msukaligwa on the east, Dipaliseng on the west and Govan Mbeki on the north.
