Like many disciplines in the sciences, the numbers of women who enter the statistics profession are retained or make significant impact in a research, leadership or managerial role are very little.

Drawing from the ISI’s Women in Statistics Committee, to which South Africa is a member of, the ISIbalo Women in Statistics programme will be launched in September 2016 to encourage and promote women’s active contribution in statistics and statistical development.

While the ISIbalo Women in Statistics programme will focus more on professional matters, Stats SA has already developed a Stats SA Women’s Forum to provide support to women in the organisation across a broader range of issues.
