ISIbalo – 1: African Statistical Research

As African economies wrestle with the lessons learned from the global financial crisis and ongoing instability, central to producing statistics that can adequately respond to measurement, monitoring and evaluation challenges in key policy areas informed by national development plans, the Sustainable Development Plans and African Frameworks like Agenda 2063.
Capacity and expertise in economic and statistical research is required tackle specific issues in planning and decision making. In the year ahead, the ISIbalo Capacity Building Programme will engage study groups, expert groups and the national statistical fraternity in identifying areas of research, analysis to strengthen areas of statistics to support surveys and censuses, statistical geography, standards and methodology, statistical tools, improved administration records.
The platform created by the data revolution and big data demands brought on by the SDGs will find a home in ISIbalo-1, including training in new and innovative method to fill data gaps that exist. Currently in South Africa, at provincial level, ISIbalo Research Symposia are held on an annual basis to engage provincial stakeholders on fit-for-use statistics in evidence0based planning.
