Statistician-General to release reports on financial statistics of municipalities and the state of basic service delivery

The Statistician-General of South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla, will release reports on the quarterly financial statistics of municipalities and the state of basic service delivery in South Africa at a media briefing to be held on Thursday, 30 March 2017 in Pretoria.

The state of basic service delivery in South Africa: In-depth analysis of the Community survey 2016 data report presents data on access to and quality and functionality of various basic services including water, electricity, sanitation, and refuse removal. The report will also present details on the prevalence of bucket toilets, as reported by South African households.

The Quarterly financial statistics of municipalities, December 2016 (QFSM) report provides statistics on the consolidated financial performance of municipalities in the country, including information on income generated from rates and services and sales of electricity and water.  The report also provides data on amounts spent by municipalities on various items including employee-related costs, bad debts, grants, interest paid on municipal debts, entertainment costs, and rental costs amongst others.
