The UN World Data Forum to close with an outline of Global Action Plan on achieving Sustainable Development Goals and announcement of host country for 2nd World Data Forum

The 1st UN World Data Forum, which is being attended by just more than 1,800 delegates and leaders from more than 100 countries in Cape Town, will conclude with a media briefing to outline the Global Action Plan on Sustainable Development on Wednesday, 18 January 2017. The media briefing will be attended by South African and United Nations representatives.

 

The 1st UN World Data Forum aimed to chart a way forward towards better measurement of progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (Vision 2030) – are a set of 17 goals agreed to by world leaders, which includes amongst others to end world poverty in all forms, end hunger, ensure gender equality, access to clean water and sanitation, combat climate change, and ensure decent work for all by 2030.

 

The media briefing will be addressed by South Africa’s Statistician-General, Dr Pali Lehohla, as well as the Director of United Nations Statistics Division, Mr Stefan Schweinfest. The United Nations is also expected to announce the host country for the next UN World Data Forum at this briefing. Regional and national bodies from across the world are expected to make commitments at this briefing.
