South Africa hosts inaugural United Nations World Data Forum on Sustainable Development Data

More than 1,000 data experts from national statistical offices, data scientists and academics, international organisations, civil society groups, as well as political leaders and sustainable development advocates from over 100 countries will congregate at the first ever UN World Data Forum on Sustainable Data. The Forum will be hosted by United Nations (UN) together with Statistics South Africa from 15 to 18 January 2017 in Cape Town. The aim of the Forum is to advance the adoption of the data revolution by developing standards and regulations for big data and forge partnerships between private data producers and national statistical offices, which will assist world governments to measure progress on the Vision 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Honourable Jeff Radebe, United Nations Under-Secretary-General Mr Wu Hongbo, Statistician-General of South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla as well as Director of United Nations Statistics Division, Mr Stefan Schweinfest will brief the media on the UN World Data Forum at a media briefing to be held as follows:
