Stats SA and the Office of the Premier KZN Host 3RD Provincial ISIbalo Symposium

Statistics South Africa’s (Stats SA) KwaZulu-Natal office has collaborated with the Office of the Premier in the province to host the 3rd ISIbalo Symposium for research and decision-making. The event will take place in Durban from 20 – 21 October 2016.

This year the focus of the symposium is geared towards Education and its contribution towards eradicating the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment, providing a forum facilitating participation in debates related to key issues of measurement, monitoring and evaluation and recommendations.

The purpose of the symposium is to engage in open high-level debate and discussions based on shared research experience to better the education dynamics in the province, reflect on current policy, effective programmes including advantages and challenges, and to reflect on recommendations that will assist in strengthening of the educational system in the province and the country.

The Statistician-General for South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla, will give the keynote address on day 1, and will provide highlights on educational challenges facing the nation.
