In focus: the post and telecommunications industry
Stats SA recently released results of its large sample survey covering the post and telecommunications industry in South Africa, for the year 2013. The report provides detailed information on the size, nature and structure of the industry.
Also included in the report is information on employment, trading income, expenditure, profit or loss, inventories, sales and services, purchases and communication technology usage.
The infographic below shows that the post and telecommunications industry contributes 2,1% to economic production (value added) in the country, and it employs an estimated 107 000 individuals. Males dominate the industry. Over two-thirds of services income earned by the telecommunications industry is from fixed lines and mobile phones.
