Statistician-General to Visit Mamelodi to Address Misinformation and Strengthen Public Trust in National Data Collection

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) invites members of the media to attend a community engagement session in Mamelodi, to be led by the Statistician-General of South Africa, Mr Risenga Maluleke.

The engagement forms part of Stats SA’s efforts to address recent misinformation surrounding our fieldwork operations and to strengthen the critical role of public participation in ensuring accurate and reliable official statistics that inform policy and decision making by organs of the state.

The community engagement will provide a platform for Stats SA to engage directly with community members, to clarify our data collection processes, and reassure the public about the safety, integrity, and professionalism of our fieldworkers. The engagement will also provide Stats SA with an opportunity to demonstrate to the public how they can verify the identity of Stats SA field staff through Stats’ website.

The session will be attended by Stats SA senior officials, community leaders, and representatives from local law enforcement to foster collaboration and transparency.

Details of the community engagement session are as follows:

Venue: Mamelodi Fire Station, Mohwelere Road Ext 6,(next to the bus terminal)

Date: 14 April 2025

Time: 10:30
