Statistics South Africa in consultation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) compiled the first ever Migration profile report for South Africa

Following in the footsteps of more than 100 countries around the world that have developed their own Migration Profiles, Stats SA in consultation with the IOM has compiled the first ever Migration Profile Report. Migration Profile reports are country owned tools developed together with stakeholders in government, academia, and civil society organisations. This report was developed in the hope of bringing together information from different sources in a structured manner. As a result, this landmark Profile delivers one of the most comprehensive overviews of migration trends and their impacts on South Africa to date. The Profile is comprised of the following themes:

Immigration for employment and study purposes
Emigration
Irregular Migration
Safety and Security
Return Migration
Internal Migration and Migrants Households
Access to Social Grants
Migration Impacts
Recommendation on Migration data collection
