Further delay in the release of the General Household Survey (GHS) 2020 results

In August, Statistics South Africa announced a delay in the release of its social surveys, including the General Household Survey (GHS), which was rescheduled for release on 28 October 2021. We wish to announce further delays in the release of the GHS 2020 report due to continued challenges brought about by changes from the face-to-face to Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) data collection methodology. Since these changes can have a far-reaching effect on estimates, additional data confrontation and analysis are required to ensure that the GHS 2020 data are aligned to the GHS time series.

This process is taking longer than anticipated and has resulted in further delays to the publication date. Stats SA recognises the importance of this dataset, especially given the impact of COVID-19 on households. Under these circumstances, it is more critical than ever that the data we disseminate complies with international standards.

We profusely apologise for the inconvenience that these delays have caused. A future date will be communicated as soon as it is finalised.

We wish to thank our valued stakeholders and the public for your continued support and participation in the surveys, especially during these unprecedented times.
