Big Five False Bay Municipality is located is a municipality under Umkhanyakude District Municipality.  It is located in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal province and covers approximately 1191km² of Umkhanyakude Disrict Municipality.  The Municipality has a population of 35 258, the smallest population within the Umkhanyakude District Municipality.

The Municipality is largely rural.  Majority of the population occupy the north-eastern part, which is densely populated by rural traditional communities.  A large proportion of land is used for agriculture and game lodge activities and is sparsely populated.  Hluhluwe is the main semi-urban area for the Municipality.

96% 0f the total population is black african.  Most of this people reside in the rural areas under the jurisdiction of Amakhosi.  The remainder of the population is constituted by whites, which formed 3% of the population.  Most of the Whites reside on farms and game lodges which are scattered throughout the municipality.

The dominant language is IsiZulu.  The largest portion of the population consists of young people between the ages of 14 to 64 years.

Education

Census 2011 reveals school attendance by population aged between 5 and 24 was 75,7% (25 3763 out of total of 33502 ) while 24,3% (8128) were not attending school.  In 2011 26,0 had no schooling down from 40,4% in 2001. 24,4% had  completed matric in 2011 while 5% had attained higher education.
