Dannhauser Local Municipality falls within Amajuba District Municipality in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Named after Renier Dannhauser, a prominent farmer and German settler who purchased farms in the area in 1872 (Wikipedia), the municipality is predominantly rural, with only 10,1% of the population living in urban settlements.

The dependency ratio for the municipality (i.e. the number of individuals aged 0–14 years and 65 years and above who are dependent on those of working age, 15–64 years) decreased from 82,6 per 100 individuals in 2001 to 76,3 in 2011.

Of those aged 20 years and older, 5,4% have completed primary school, 36,3% have some secondary education, 25,5% have completed matric and 3,7% have some form of higher education.
