Fouriesburg was named after the owner of the farm on which it was established, Christoffel Fourie. The town itself was established in 1892, and during the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902) it was almost completely destroyed due to heavy fighting. (GPS coordinates: 28.6184 S, 28.1966 E).
