Virginia is a name that was bestowed on the town in reference to two railway surveyors from the state of Virginia, in the United States, who etched the name of their birthplace on a boulder near the farm Merriespruit. Later, when the railway siding was established at that spot, the name was adopted. (GPS coordinates: 28.0707 S, 26.8617 E).
