Kamieskroon came into existence in 1924 when a village, named Bowesdorp, was moved 7km south to a new location where there was more water and space available. The name is Afrikaans, and means 'crown on the Kamiesberg', referring to a rock formation on the 300 metre high peak. The area is well known for its abundance of wild flowers during spring. (GPS coordinates: 30.2176 S, 17.9205 E).
