Komaggas is named after a tributary of the Buffelsrivier. Historically the area was established as a station of the London Missionary Society in 1829. The name is derived from the Khoikhoi language and means 'the place of many wild olives' (GPS coordinates: 29.7987 S, 17.4825 E).
