Goodhouse is derived from the Khoikhoi word Gudaos, meaning 'sheep ford' and is claimed to be the spot where the Namas crossed the Orange River when they trekked from Little Namaqualand to Great Namaqualand. (GPS coordinates: 28.9112 S, 18.2137 E).
