Jansenville is said to have been named after General Jan Willem Janssens (1762-1838), the last Batavian Governor of the Cape. The town owes its origins to the Dutch Reformed Church who established a parish there in 1854. (GPS coordinates: 32.9376 S, 24.6546 E).
