Muizenberg was originally a military outpost, and is said to have been named after Wynand Willem Muijs, sergeant in charge of the post. An alternative origin of the name is that it is derived from Moetjesons, the name of a Khoikhoi group who lived there. (GPS coordinates: 34.0926 S, 18.472 E).
