Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve s situated in the Hottentots Holland mountains, and is about 70 000ha in area size. The name of both the reserve and the mountains is taken from the name of the general area, which was first recorded in 1657, indicating that the area was regarded by the Khoikhoi as their 'Holland' or mother country.
