Bellville was originally known as Twelve Mile Stone, after its distance from Cape Town. It received its present name in 1861, after Charles Davidson Bell, Surveyor-General of the Cape from 1848 to 1872. (GPS coordinates: 33.893 S, 18.6365 E).
