Northam was proclaimed in 1946 and named after Northam in Devonshire, England. The villiage was established on the farm Leeukoppie, which the owner, H Herd, purchased from British soldiers after the Second Anglo-Boer War. Northam is famous for the Oppikoppi music festival, which takes place every year in August. (GPS coordinates: 24.9189 S, 27.2898 E).
