The total income from own manufactured products for the manufacturing industry in 2017 was R2 065,7 billion. The income represents an increase of 5,9% per annum over the income reported in the corresponding survey of 2014 (R1 740,2 billion). Comparing 2014 and 2017, large increases were reported for ‘transport equipment’ (+R119,3 billion), ‘food and beverages’ (+R87,1 billion), ‘metals, metal products, machinery and equipment’ (+R40,5 billion) and ‘wood products, paper products and printed matter’ (+R30,7 billion).

 

Between 2014 and 2017, ‘transport equipment’ gained the biggest percentage share (+3,9 percentage points) in income from own manufactured products (from a percentage contribution of 12,2% in 2014 to 16,1% in 2017). ‘Coke, petroleum products, chemical products, rubber and plastic products’ lost the biggest percentage share (‑4,7 percentage points) over the same period (from 30,0% in 2014 to 25,3% in 2017).
