Key findings: Report-30-02-04 - Manufacturing industry: Production, 2014

The total income from own manufactured products for the manufacturing industry in 2014 was R1 822,8 billion. The income represents an increase of 12,2% per annum over the income reported in the corresponding survey of 2011 (R1 291,7 billion). Comparing 2011 and 2014, large increases were reported for 'coke, petroleum products, chemical products, rubber and plastic products' (+R238,0 billion), 'food and beverages' (+R103,8 billion), 'metals, metal products, machinery and equipment' (+R65,5 billion) and 'transport equipment' (+R54,8 billion).

Between 2011 and 2014, 'coke, petroleum products, chemical products, rubber and plastic products' gained the biggest percentage share (+3,7 percentage points) in income from own manufactured products (from a percentage contribution of 31,9% in 2011 to 35,6% in 2014). 'Food and beverages' was the only other product group to record an increase in percentage share (+0,4 percentage points) (from a percentage contribution of 18,4% in 2011 to 18,8% in 2014). 'Metals, metal products, machinery and equipment' lost the biggest percentage share ( 1,9 percentage points) over the same period (from 18,8% in 2011 to 16,9% in 2014).
