Key findings: Report-03-51-02 - Tourism, 2018

The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during 2018 was 15 939 855. The 2018 figure represents a decrease of 0,3% as compared with the 2017 figure of 15 990 598. Foreign arrivals were made up of 935 471 non-visitors and 15 004 384 visitors. Visitors were made up of 4 532 279 same-day visitors and 10 472 105 tourists (overnight visitors). The breakdown of tourists by sex and age is as follows: 5 791 865 were males, 4 680 240 were females; 547 704 were less than 15 years, 1 018 837 were aged 15-24, 2 853 680 were aged 25-34, 2 828 999 were aged 35-44, 1 651 433 were aged 45-54, 974 152 were aged 55-64, 597 300 were aged 65+.
