Key findings: Report-03-51-02 - Tourism, 2021

The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa from Africa, overseas and unspecified countries, arriving through all ports of entry during 2021 was 3 150 007. The 2021 figure represents a decrease of 31,3% as compared with the 2020 figure of 4 586 387. Foreign arrivals were made up of 486 146 non-visitors and 2 663 861 visitors. Visitors were made up of 408 162 same-day visitors and 2 255 699 tourists (overnight visitors). The breakdown of tourists by sex and age is as follows: 1 499 025 were males, 756 674 were females; 96 089 were less than 15 years, 157 277 were aged 15-24, 522 193 were aged 25-34, 754 769 were aged 35-44, 451 980 were aged 45-54, 194 365 were aged 55-64, 79 026 were aged 65+
