The net change in the stock of cash from provincial revenue funds and donor funds amounted to a cash surplus of R3 199 million for the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

 

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of provincial government for the fiscal years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds amounted to a cash surplus of R3 199 million for the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

 

1.      Major influences

 

The revenue cash flows from operating activities amounted to R682 419 million and the expense cash flows amounted to R645 616 million, resulting in a net cash inflow from operating activities of R36 803 million for the 2021/2022 fiscal year ending 31 March 2022. The net cash outflow from transactions in non-financial assets amounted to R33 604 million for the 2021/2022 fiscal year. The cash surplus for 2021/2022 was R3 199 million. The total net change in the stock of cash for the provincial government amounted to R3 199 million (see Table A, p. 5 of the publication).

The largest contributor to the total expenditure cash flows for operating activities and purchases of non-financial assets (functionally classified) of R679 349 million from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds for the 2021/2022 fiscal year was education (R283 293million, contributing 41,7%), followed by health (R231 843 million or 34,1%), economic affairs (R62 631 million or 9,2%), general public services (R33 104 million or 4,9%), social protection (R24 511 million or 3,6%), housing and community amenities (R21 433 million or 3,2%), recreation, culture and religion (R10 420 million or 1,5%), public order and safety (R7 653 million or 1,1%) and environmental protection (R4 461 million or 0,7%) (see Table C, p.11 and Figure 4, p.12 of the publication).
