This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of provincial government for the fiscal years 2012/2013 and 2013/2014, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds amounted to R5 051 million for the 2013/2014 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from R6 555 million in 2012/2013.
   
   
1. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R5 051  million of net change in the stock of cash of provincial government for the fiscal year 2013/2014 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R429 942 million, (2012/2013: R401 533 million); cash payments for operating activities, R394 214 million, (2012/2013: R365 241 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R30 790 million, (2012/2013: R29 859 million); and sales of non-financial assets, R113 million, (2012/2013: R122 million).

The largest contributor to the total cash payments for operating activities and purchases of non-financial assets (functionally classified) of R425 004 million from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds for the 2013/2014 fiscal year was education (R181 094 million, contributing 42,6%), followed by health (R127 093 million or 29,9%), total economic affairs (R46 296 million or 10,9%), total general public services (R22 426 million or 5,3%), housing and community amenities (R19 552 million or 4,6%), social protection (R13 924 million or 3,3%), recreation, culture and religion (R7 125 million or 1,7%), public order and safety (R4 559 million or 1,1%) and environmental protection (R2 935 million or 0,7%).
