Net change in the stock of cash from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds amounted to a cash deficit of R8 758 million for the 2008/2009 fiscal year

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of provincial government for the fiscal years 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the provincial revenue funds and donor funds amounted to a cash deficit of R8 758 million for the 2008/2009 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from the R1 057 million cash surplus in 2007/2008.
     
Major Influences

The major contributors to the R8 758 million cash deficit of net change in the stock of cash of provincial government for the fiscal year 2008/2009 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R255 303 million, (2007/2008: R214 570 million); cash payments for operating activities, R235 251million, (2007/2008: R191 592 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R28 916 million, (2007/2008: R22 048 million); and sales of non-financial assets, R106 million, (2007/2008: R127 million).
