This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of consolidated government for the fiscal years 2005/2006 and 2006/2007, classified economically and functionally. The consolidated net change in the stock of cash from the general government sector amounted to R14 890 million for the 2006/2007 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from R27 017 million in 2005/2006.

The major contributors to the amount of R14 890 million of consolidated net change in the stock of cash from the general government sector for the fiscal year 2006/2007 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R601 054 million (2005/2006: R523 825 million); cash payments for operating activities, R534 457 million, (2005/2006: R475 397 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R53 710 million, (2005/2006: R43 406 million); sales of non-financial assets, R373 million (2005/2006: R399 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R9 383 million (2005/2006: R9 613 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R11 014 million (2005/2006: R31 209 million).
