STATEMENT OF SOURCES AND USES OF CASH OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT 2009/2010

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2009/2010 and 2008/2009, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the national revenue fund and donor funds amounted to R26 305 million for the 2009/2010 fiscal year. The amount has increased from R12 266 million in 2008/2009.

2. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R26 305 million of net change in the stock of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2009/2010 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R611 522 million (2008/2009: R645 131 million); cash payments for operating activities, R732 373 million, (2008/2009: R645 617 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R10 626 million, (2008/2009: R11 334 million); sales of non-financial assets, R17 million (2008/2009: R131 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R34 257 million (2008/2009: R10 094  million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R192 022 million (2008/2009: R34 049  million).
