STATEMENT OF SOURCES AND USES OF CASH OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT 2008/2009

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2008/2009 and 2007/2008, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the national revenue fund and donor funds amounted to R12 266 million for the 2008/2009 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from R18 015 million in 2007/2008.

2. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R12 266 million of net change in the stock of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2008/2009 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R645 131 million (2007/2008: R586 113 million); cash payments for operating activities, R645 617 million, (2007/2008: R558 445 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R11 334 million, (2007/2008: R9 351 million); sales of non-financial assets, R131 million (2007/2008: R230 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R10 094 million (2007/2008: R77 million); and net incurrence of liabilities,
R34 049 million (2007/2008: -R455 million).
