STATEMENT OF SOURCES AND USES OF CASH OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT 2006/2007

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2006/2007 and 2005/2006, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the national revenue fund and donor funds amounted to R11 911 million for the 2006/2007 fiscal year. The amount has decreased from R21 990 million in 2005/2006.

2. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R11 911 million of net change in the stock of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2006/2007 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R507 627 million (2005/2006: R429 547 million); cash payments for operating activities, R495 238 million, (2005/2006: R428 479 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R6 523 million, (2005/2006: R7 866 million); sales of non-financial assets, R39 million (2005/2006: R80 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R160 million (2005/2006: R143 million); and net incurrence of liabilities,
R6 166 million (2005/2006: R28 851 million).
