STATEMENT OF SOURCES AND USES OF CASH OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT 2005/2006

This statistical release provides information on the sources and uses of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2004/2005 and 2005/2006, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from the national revenue fund and donor funds amounted to R21 568 million for the 2005/2006 fiscal year. The amount has increased from R10 984 million in 2004/2005.

2. Major Influences

The major contributors to the amount of R21 568 million of net change in the stock of cash of national government for the fiscal year 2005/2006 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R429 547 million (2004/2005: R360 915 million); cash payments for operating activities, R428 911 million, (2004/2005: R388 354 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R7 856 million, (2004/2005: R6 665 million); sales of non-financial assets, R80 million (2004/2005: R25 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R143 million (2004/2005: R98 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R28 708 million (2004/2005 R45 162 million), (see Table A, p.4).
