Key findings: P9115 - Non-Financial Census of Municipalities, June 2005

The number of consumer units receiving basic services from municipalities increased between 30 June 2003, 2004 and 2005. The largest increase from 2004 to 2005 in the provision of services was in solid waste management (19,3%), followed by sewerage and sanitation (16,3%), water (14,8%) and electricity (14,7%).

Over the period 2003 to 2005, all nine provinces displayed a decline in the use of the bucket toilet system.

Of the 2,9 million households identified as indigent, 64,1% receive water, 38,1% receive electricity, 44,0% receive sewerage and sanitation and 42,3% receive solid waste management services in South Africa as at 30 June 2005
