Key findings on selected variables

The number of households receiving basic services from municipalities increased between 30 June 2002, 2003 and 2004. 

The largest increase from 2003 to 2004 in the provision of services was in water (14,0%), followed by
sewerage and sanitation (11,8%), electricity (11,3%) and solid waste management (8,8%).

The number of households that relied on bucket toilet system for the years ended 30 June 2002, 2003 and 2004. All the provinces show a decrease in the number of households who rely on the bucket toilet system.
Western Cape shows the highest reduction in 2004, followed by KwaZulu-Natal and then Limpopo.
