The net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R263 million for the 2017 financial year.

This statistical release provide information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2016 and 2017, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R263 million for the 2017 financial year. The amount has decreased from R1 629 million in 2016.

Major Influences

The major contributors to the cash amount of R263 million of the net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2017 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R73 714 million, (2016: R67 366 million); cash payments for operating activities, R62 278 million, (2016: R58 952 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R5 887 million, (2016: R6 224 million); sales of non-financial assets, R60 million, (2016: R59 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R5 963 million, (2016: R1 540 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R617 million (2016: R920 million), (see Table A, p.5).
