This statistical release provide information on the sources and uses of cash of higher education institutions for the financial years 2014 and 2015, classified economically and functionally. The net change in the stock of cash from higher education institutions amounted to R820 million for the 2015 financial year. The amount has decreased from R1 026 million in 2014.
 
Major Influences

The major contributors to the cash amount of R820 million of the net change in the stock of cash of higher education institutions for the financial year 2015 are the cash receipts from operating activities, R63 106 million, (2014: R58 190 million); cash payments for operating activities, R54 119 million, (2014: R49 664 million); purchases of non-financial assets, R7 193 million, (2014: R5 861 million); sales of non-financial assets, R244 million, (2014: R72 million); net acquisition of financial assets other than cash, R2 339 million, (2014: R2 013 million); and net incurrence of liabilities, R1 121 million (2014: R302 million), (see Table A, p.4).
